I Have An Anger Problem

Updated: Jul 9, 2022

Actually I have a few anger problems or should I say that I have problems with anger?

Either way, it's sometimes a bit of a problem because...

  1. I don't like the feeling of being angry

  2. Being angry puts me in a negative headspace

  3. I fear anger will take over me and I'll never go back to normal

  4. I treat my loved ones badly (even though they had nothing to do with it)

  5. I tend to escalate into bigger and bigger issues

These are just some of the things people say about out of control anger problems.

I have had the opportunity to meet people from all walks of life and have been able to speak to them about their relationship with anger and its effects.

  • People who enjoy the feeling. It makes them feel powerful and thereby they lean into it as much as possible.

  • People who feel guilty for becoming angry and end up feeling confused and depressed because they felt angry at something or someone.

  • People who are convinced that when they feel angry, they have to attack. (think, "Hulk Smash")

  • People who are just angry all of the time and have surrendered to the idea that this is how life is.

  • People who take it out on one specific person every time they become angry.

  • People who feel they have to "let it out" in order for it to go away.

Of course, this list can go on and on but I think you get the idea.

Do you have a preferred method for handling anger? What is it? (Really, I want to know!)

I have definitely had my run-ins with anger as I suppose most of us have to some degree.

I want to make sure to point out that there are different degrees to anger. Some being mild irritations and annoyances all the way to an uncontrollable rage that comes from deep down inside.

I've come up with my own way of dealing with that old visceral feeling.

Yes, your reaction to anger IS A CHOICE. As much as many of us tend to think that there is no other way to react when we are angry, offended, crossed, or betrayed, we do, we absolutely do have a choice.

I'll leave this post right here since this can be a difficult pill to swallow. We can get into this topic on a deeper level at one of our monthly discussion groups or in our free member forums.

For now, just think about this a little and let me know what comes up for you.

I would love to hear what you have to say about this one.
